Several people I know are going through a crisis, and many of my spiritually sensitive clients have started the year off with something significant falling apart in their lives.
We often think of a new year as a fresh start, but sometimes Life must clear the ground of what’s no longer working so that fresh new things have room to grow.
It’s necessary.
And yes, it’s scary.
When things fall apart, we often go right into fight-or-flight mode. Our animal instinct takes over as we fear for our survival. We stay up late at night ruminating about the worst-case scenario. We beat ourselves up for not doing things differently. And our nervous systems go into high alert as our mind tells our bodies we are in chaos and present danger.
Its in these fragile moments we surrender our personal power.
Many of us don’t really understand what personal power means. We’ve been given the false notion that power is bad — that it’s something we use to exert our will upon others. In fact, when our personal power is intact, we are neither overbearing nor meek. We have a clear sense of our strength and the impact we can have on others. This enables us to be more sensitive.
Personal power is what permits us to work on behalf of our dreams and desires. It allows us to realize that we are worthy and deserve to be heard. In addition, our personal power lets us extend the respect we know that we deserve to the people around us. There is no reason to be afraid or ashamed of fully owning your power.
Because when things fall apart, the only thing that dies is our ideas of what reality is, what it will be, or what it should be.
When we go through loss, financial strain, divorce, health complications or other disasters that alter the landscape of our logical reality - while leaving our bodies and spirits intact, our intellectual mind goes through a death.
But who-we-really-are remains whole.
To the Spirit Within:
Breakdowns lead to breakthroughs. That's because the Spirit Within is an eternal spark of the Divine. It never dies, and nothing can threaten it.
So when things fall apart on me, I get quiet and go within to hear what it has to say. Sometimes I get a glimpse of what’s to come. Other times, I only see a mysterious fog in the distance. But I ALWAYS find my courage by listening to that inner voice.
It works that way for the people I help every day too.
So consider this a gentle reminder… whether you are going through a major life-altering crisis, a little earthquake, or at the moment you are simply somewhere in-between…
Don’t let fear of the unknown cause you more suffering.
Tap into the well of your eternal strength and know this:
You will be okay no matter what happens.
You are the hero of this story.
And in case you didn’t know, inside your chakra system, the solar plexus is the seat of personal power. One way to evaluate your sense of power is to breathe into this part of the body. If it feels tight or nervous, it is an indication that you may not be fully expressing your power. You can heal this imbalance by expanding the area of the solar plexus with your breath. You can also visualize a bright yellow sun in this part of your body. Allow its heat to melt any tension, and let its light dissolve any darkness or heaviness. Repeating this exercise on a regular basis can restore and rejuvenate your sense of power.
Another way to nurture your personal power is to honor your dreams and desires by making concrete plans to manifest them in the world. Start by making a list of things you want, and let yourself think big. Choose one goal from the list and commit to bringing it to fruition. In addition, break the goal into tasks that you can work on each day. Know that you deserve to have your dreams come true and that you have the power to bring them into being.
And maybe, just maybe... the garden of your life will flourish all the more because of the difficulties you are currently facing.
Be open to things going as well as they can for what they are.
And trust the process.
A'ho! Ase! Haux!
